Can strategy games really work on a phone?

Strategy and tiny screens sound like a bad marriage, yet some games pull it off. The secret is usually subtraction: fewer units, clearer counters, shorter matches.

When I played Ironline Command the thing that surprised me was how little I missed a mouse. Tapping a unit and dragging an order felt natural once the map stayed small enough to see fully.

The games that fail do so by cramming a PC interface onto a phone. Menus within menus, tiny buttons, zoom you have to fight. Good mobile strategy hides complexity behind simple gestures.

If you've been burned before, give the genre another try. The newer designs respect that you're playing with thumbs, and the short match length fits phone sessions perfectly.
