What makes a mobile story worth following
A lot of mobile games open with a cinematic and then forget they had a story. The ones that stick do something simpler: they give you a reason to care about the next quest, not just the next loot drop.
The best writing I've seen on phones leans into short scenes. You're playing in gaps between other things, so a tight two-minute conversation lands harder than a twenty-minute cutscene you'll skip.
Callbacks matter too. When a character you helped in chapter one shows up changed in chapter four, that payoff costs the developer almost nothing and buys enormous goodwill.
Emberfall Saga does this well, and it's why I keep recommending it. Pay attention to how a game treats its side characters early, and you'll usually know whether the story is going anywhere.
